# Causes of Most Earthquake Injuries
According to a study conducted by the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), 55% of injuries during the 1994 Northridge Earthquake were caused by falling furniture or objects. The estimated total cost of damage caused by falling furniture or objects was in the billions of U.S. dollars. Only 1% of injuries were caused by building damage.[^1]
