# The Internet Protocol Suite ![[Internet Protocol Suite - Wikipedia#^lp0oxa]] The internet protocol suite was developed at more or less the same time as the [[OSI Model]] and people still refer to the TCP/IP layers as OSI layers (it is the TCP/IP stack that is used on the internet, not the OSI model). In general, any comparisons between OSI and TCP/IP layers should be avoided because unlike with the OSI model, layering in the TCP/IP stack was not the main guiding principle driving its design, and is even considered harmful.[^1] [^1]: [[Link Layer - Wikipedia#^nf0r8i]] ![[Network Foundations - Network Concepts#^8j3vhz]] ## TCP/IP Layers ![[Internet Protocol Suite - Wikipedia#^5jv30n]] ![[Network Foundations - Network Concepts#^pqxmhu]] ### Link Layer ![[Link Layer#^tqa0q9]] ![[Link Layer#^wic4cs]] For more see [[Link Layer]]. ### Internet Layer ![[Internet Layer#^tfxde3]] ![[Internet Layer#^l9qzd8]] ![[Internet Layer#^yd9fl1]] For more see [[Internet Layer]]. ### Transport Layer ![[Transport Layer#^x3iupj]] ![[Transport Layer#^52a8xw]] ![[Transport Layer#^22htty]] For more see [[Transport Layer]]. ### Application layer ![[Application layer - Wikipedia#^xawf29]]
