# The Internet Protocol Suite
![[Internet Protocol Suite - Wikipedia#^lp0oxa]]
The internet protocol suite was developed at more or less the same time as the [[OSI Model]] and people still refer to the TCP/IP layers as OSI layers (it is the TCP/IP stack that is used on the internet, not the OSI model). In general, any comparisons between OSI and TCP/IP layers should be avoided because unlike with the OSI model, layering in the TCP/IP stack was not the main guiding principle driving its design, and is even considered harmful.[^1]
