# Thoughts on HEY Mail **The developers of HEY have this concept they follow they call "less is more," which really resonated with me because it's the guiding principle of minimalism.** I actually love the design! Modern applications/web sites are usually so cluttered with features that I often get lost (where did I see that one button that one time two months ago?)[^1]. This makes me livid. It even shows up in productivity apps (which is one of the reasons why I love Notion, it has loads of features but the UI is not cluttered). Take Outlook for instance: the ribbon looks like an airplane cockpit. How many features do I use? Maybe 5%. The rest? There to distract and confuse me. [^1]: This is because those applications are usually paid for by advertising. See [[Rant About Free Software]] **The killer feature is actually how they managed to filter out the irrelevant and allow me to focus on the important e-mails.** It's what Google promised to do with AI but failed miserably (Important and priority inboxes, etc). That, combined with the amazing design and development philosophy of the app (I think I listened to every single online talk these guys did about the development), made me fall in love with it. See [[Thoughts on HEY Calendar]] as well.
